How to join the “Yellow Jacket” Marching Band

Membership is determined by audition. Auxiliary auditions are held in April; Percussion auditions begin in June, July and August; brass and woodwind auditions are held in August at the beginning of band camp. Specific audition information is available here.

Who can be a Marching “Yellow Jacket”?

Marching Band is an ensemble-class in the School of Music open to students meeting the following criteria:

  • Official enrollment at Georgia Institute of Technology
  • Successful completion of the audition procedure

How do I get complete audition information?

Complete audition information is provided upon request. You may request audition information by using the BAND APPLICATION provided at this web site.  If you’ve already filled out a band application and received the Summer Newsletter, there is no need to fill it out again.  Download the appropriate form below.  The new band application for Fall 2017 is now available.

Once we receive your request, you will be entered in our data base of potential new students. During spring and summer of your senior year in high school, you will receive a variety of informative mailings about the Georgia Tech Bands.  New member forms will be available on June 1, 2016.

If you are a brass, woodwind, or percussion student, the most important document to look for is the “Summer Mailing” which is mailed to new members around June 1 of the summer before you first enter Tech as a freshman or transfer student. If you do not receive this by July 1, call the band office immediately at (404) 894-8951.

If you are a high school junior or younger and fill out the BAND APPLICATION, you will receive some informative literature, but audition information will not be sent until the months before your enrollment at Georgia Tech. (Please note that it is your responsibility to notify the band office of address changes.)
